Day of Surgery for Clients: Surgery & Anesthesia Protocol
What's is included in my pet's surgery?
-Free pre-consultation with the surgeon with conditional guaranteed on all surgery.
-small size & short length incision & wide surgical site hair shave "cut" with complementary "bikini shave."
-12 years of experienced veterinary surgeon in soft tissue, orthopedic & oral surgery with over 4k patient cases with a high client & patient satisfaction rate >95%.
-Licensed RVT (anesthesia/surgery nurse) with an animal bachelor of science degree with >12 years of veterinary experience.
-We only use veterinary trusted top brands of material, equipment & locking implants.
-Nocita (Bupivacaine): 3 day local numbing pain relief
-Simini (anti-microbial lavage)
-Local regional nerve block guided by nerve stimulator &/or ultrasound guidance.
-Lick Sleeve & Pelvic Sling Support
-Post-surgery text discharge communication with surgeon including surgery photos & radiographs.

#2: Referral Patient History & Diagnostics
Please provide the following information regarding your patient (dog or cat):
a) Client Name & Phone #
b) Patient Name & Signalment (age, breed, weight & sex).
c) Tentative Diagnosis.
d) Radiographs.
e) Pre-Anesthetic BloodWORK (cbc/chemistry/electrolyte/urinalysis).
f) Medical Record with any pre-surgery diagnostics results such as cytology or biopsy, bloodwork/urinalysis, culture & sensitivity, radiographs+report & ultrasound+report.
g) Client must read over surgery handout & consent to surgery to prepare themself for the surgery recovery & at-home physical rehabilitation (if applicable), which can be found directly on the TreatVetSXService website link label "SURGERY HANDOUTs."
#3: Scheduling & Confirmation
a) Treat surgery team will coordinate with the referring hospital based on the the client schedule.
b) Collect a $900 surgery schedule deposit to schedule a date (See cancellation rules below).
c) The surgery date will be confirmed by Treat surgeon, referring hospital & client.
d) Surgery confirmation will be conducted again the 1 day before the scheduled date.
e) On the Surgery Day: Dr. Le-Nguyen will confirm the ETA with the client & rDVM.
#4: rDVM Surgery Day Preparation
a) The rDVM will conduct a physical exam & establish a safe & efficient anesthetic protocol.
c) TREAT surgeon will provide all necessary surgical equipment & procedures including lick sleeve, sling support, nerve block or epidural, SIMINI, Nocita & experienced RVT.
c) After surgery, Dr. Le-Nguyen will communicate with the owner(s) regarding the anesthesia & surgery performed, alongside discussing the post-operative plan, discharge & pick-up time. Surgery photos & radiographs will be provided to the client.
d) The referring veterinarian & staff will carry out a discharge visit with the owner at the time of patient pick-up including medications to go home & providing an e-collar.
e) TREAT surgeon will email a complete surgical report including documentation of client & surgeon conversation with surgery photos/radiographs to the referring veterinarian hospital email, ensuring comprehensive documentation of the surgical procedure & communication.
#5: Pre-Surgery: Surgery Day - Prior to TREAT Team Arrival
a) Prep O.R. (Operating Room)
b) Prep Meds (pull up pre-medication, IV antibiotics (cefazolin), IV fluids pumps +/-CRI), anesthesia equipment to monitor vitals (oxygen level, blood pressure, ECG & heart rate, carbon dioxide levels).
c) Prep Patient
- Record initial TPR (temperature/pulse/respiration) into medical record
- IV Catheter
- Administer Pre-Med (>15 minutes prior to induction)
- Induction & Intubation
- Pre-op IV antibiotics (administered at induction then every 90 minutes)
- Wide Margin Shave & Scrub/Clean (for knee cases: vet wrap foot to above hock)
TREAT Team • Follow the referral protocol to transport the patient out of the O.R. • Conduct Post-Op RADS • Perform extubation & manage recovery, ensuring the highest gold standards of our surgery services provided by the veterinary surgeon & RVT nurse.
#6: Intra-OP Surgery: IN SURGERY OR ”Theatre”
a) If you need to enter the O.R. during surgery services, please wear a cap & mask.
b) Most surgeries performed by our veterinary surgeon take 1 hour or less.
We’ll provide a ~10-minute heads up as we’re closing so you can prepare for post-op rads, extubation & recovery with heat support.
c) The TREAT Surgery Team will follow the referral protocol & perform the following after surgery:
• Apply on the incision with a Primapore bandaid with antibiotic ointment.
• Transfer to the hospital anesthesia team for monitoring & discharge.
#7: After Surgery
a) After the surgery services, conduct a follow-up call with the client to discuss the patient's post-surgery & anesthesia recovery, addressing any questions they may have.
If any problems arise, update your veterinary surgeon following the referral protocol.
b) Confirm the recheck date at 2 weeks skin incision/suture removal & 6-8 weeks radiographs with the client & report any concerns to your veterinary surgeon for further guidance.
c) Post-op radiographs are welcomed for evaluation by your veterinary surgeon at no additional cost.
